INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE
A defining objective of [conspicuum.infra .x] is to cultivate sustained exchange among percussionists and ensembles across cultural, educational, institutional, and professional contexts.
The residency’s international structure enables participants to encounter divergent methodologies, compare solo and ensemble practices, and examine how performance is conditioned by histories, traditions, materials, instruments, technologies, institutions, and working environments.
International exchange is understood not as the display of difference, but as a practice of attentive listening, negotiation, translation, and shared inquiry. Participants are expected to articulate their positions precisely while remaining open to the possibility that sustained engagement may transform their methods, assumptions, interpretative judgments, responsibilities, and ensemble relations.
Because the program unfolds over several months, relationships can develop through recurrent artistic contact rather than episodic professional encounter. The residency seeks to support connections that remain consequential beyond festival preparation and may generate future public performances, collaborations, research, recordings, publications, pedagogical initiatives, or other forms of sustained artistic dialogue.
